pudding and a movie

OK so this blog was created for a reason and the reason is .. Pudding. Roll on the the second contestant *

Entrant: Roly Poly Pudding a.la “le naked chef”

Judged: Disqualified.
BackStory: The investigating committe determined that the entering party had an illegal assist from an outside party (only with the dough!). As such this pudding was disqualified from contention. It wasn’t all that bad though.

The Movie: Blood Diamond 

Synopsis: A white Rhodesian (erm.. Zimbabwan) arms/diamonds smuggler (Leo DiCaprio) and an all-too-white American reporter bear witness to the awful and tragic civil war, child soldiers, and diamond trade in 1999 Sierra Leone. Somehow the producers manage to work in a love story, a touching family reunion and a ‘get the diamond and bring down the bad guys’ hollywood happy ending. Leo keeps his shirt on but his black male-model co-star (Djimon Hounsou) bears some pretty impressive midriff at the beginning.

Judged: Opinions generally somewhat negative. Some felt that the hollywood schmaltz is ‘the price you pay’ for getting the important message of the story (don’t buy diamonds) out. Others felt that it was altogether too dang a disturbing to be watching on a pleasant evening whilst eating pudding. Others felt that he was (OK it was me) sick to death of movies about Africa starring white guys, and that if you absolutely *had* to have an ‘understandable protaganist’ the right approach is that of the much more authentic and touching Beyond The Gates.

* PS Actually not really the second contestant in the pudding&movie competetion but earlier contestants including cup holder date to before this blog was setup and I’m not that obsessive about this thing.
