The Train Trip

September 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

JA 1271 Baxter and Ezra Its all just so much fuss getting pics off the camera, up to flickr, and then finally posting them on wordpress.

I thought I’d done a complte search on “the google” but to no avail and was even contemplating writing something to ease the process myself. When, just now I hit upon the right keywords for my google search - now don’t laugh - but, “post flickr wordpress“ seems to do the trick nicely. Do’h. So badda bing this and a bit of “sudo apt-get install php5-curl” later and its now as easy as pie to post pics. So “bye bye blogdesk” hello Louise doing all the flickr posting fun. And thus, without further ado…

Some pics from last weekend. In Paekakariki we are blessed with a train line - the loud rumbling of which rather dominates the place, but which I don’t mind a bit as it helps me feel connected to the city.

And, along with the electric/freight-train/’the express!’ fun we even have a few Steam trains - right there on the station. For some reason the good folks from SteamLine  spend many a happy Sunday afternoon charging up and down on the same short bit of track twiddling with nobs and generally getting their trains ready for excursions. And the platform makes the perfect spot for train spotting good ole’ JA1271 as it charges up and down - which, of course, is Baxter and (especially) Ezra’s idea of a perfect day out. Just look at that happy and excited face!

IMG_1010 why is Ezra so excited?!

And also, look at that big ole’ steam train. A J-Class if you will JA1271 in fact. Quite the impressive thing to see close up if you ask me.

And on the way back.. guess what we had a bonus bit of FireStation fun. The firetruck itself we could see charging up and down the train yard (apparently to do some publicity photos or something) but as we passed by the nice woman left in charge asked Baxter and Ezra in, to try on FireFighter hats and everything.

From a three year old kid perspective, I think maybe this was just about the perfect Sunday afternoon.
